Municipal solid waste generation and disposal are major environmental issues in both urban and rural areas, owing to rising population, particularly in developing nations, and a lack of an effective trash management service. The purpose of this research is to investigate the waste management system in rural areas in order to identify a suitable treatment facility to improve the waste management system. The emission produced by the treatment and transportation processes is critical and contributes significantly to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In this way, a bi-objective optimization model is intended to reduce system costs and greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2).

Global meat consumption is increasing, with approximately 253 million metric tons of meat produced annually in 2020. The meat consumption trend is projected to continue due to population growth and changes in eating preferences. Meat production through animal slaughtering increases slaughterhouse wastes in both solid and liquid forms. In developed countries, many technologies for slaughterhouse waste management are available. Solid waste management (SWM) is essential for long-term environmental development. Unmanaged solid waste remains a problem in many developing nations, including Ghana, despite high-level policy efforts and technical expenditures. Due to expanding population, the amount of garbage generated in rural areas is increasing.
